Family Resource Center

Our priority with safety extends beyond the walls of the hospital. We work to protect the ones we hold most dear our children. Knowing that the number one cause of injury or death among children 0-14 years is unintentional injuries, Children’s Hospital of Nevada works with Trauma Services at UMC to provide injury prevention education. The Family Resource Center provides child passenger safety seats to families whenever possible. Parenting classes, bicycle, water safety, and CPR are taught to interested families.

Baby Steps: Is a comprehensive program to assist expectant mothers in accessing early and continuous prenatal care. Baby Steps assists mother in obtaining financial assistance for prenatal care, referral to a physician, transportation to prenatal visits, emotional support and childbirth education. This program is offered free of charge to any pregnant woman.

Bright Beginnings: Provides community education in Childbirth Preparation, Breastfeeding, Sibling classes, Baby Basics, Infant Massage, Infant and Child CPR, Boot Camp for New Dads and Safe Sitter classes. Infant and Child playgroups are also available, where we emphasize the health and development and socialization of your child. Personal tours of UMC’s Maternal Child Unit are available upon request. All classes are offered at no charge to the UMC community.
